Abstract:

Topological states of matter research is one of the hot topics in the field of condensed matter physics. Due to their macroscopic properties, classical systems such as phononic crystals are considered excellent platforms for simulating topological physics. Scientifically, such research can lead to a comprehensive understanding of classical and quantum topological states of matter, and even advance the discovery of interesting topological physical effects and phenomena before their proposal in quantum systems. On the application side, this fundamental research can provide theoretical foundations and knowledge reserves for the development of high-performance novel acoustic devices. The speaker will introduce the research progress in the field of topological phononic crystals by our research group in recent years, including the acoustic realization of first-order and higher-order topological insulators, topological semimetals, universal construction schemes for topological bound states in the continuum, as well as the transport properties and applications of three-dimensional topological defect states.
